Information we collect

Account and profile information

If you receive an account, Qwry stores your email address, display name, handle, optional profile details, account role, verification state, and security-related account events. Passwords are processed as one-way hashes. Session tokens are also stored as hashes.

Contributions and interactions

Qwry stores questions, answers, sources, edits, reports, votes, moderation decisions, accepted-answer selections, and related timestamps. Qwry also stores point-ledger events and daily sign-in streak state so it can calculate reputation consistently and prevent duplicate awards. Revision and provenance records help readers understand where content came from and how it changed.

Messages and technical data

The contact form stores the name, reply email, subject, and message you provide. Cloudflare, Nginx, and the application may process IP addresses, request headers, timestamps, device or browser details, security events, and diagnostic logs needed to deliver and protect the service.

How we use information

Qwry uses information to:

• authenticate accounts and maintain secure sessions;
• attribute contributions and display public profile history;
• review, source, correct, merge, and moderate content;
• respond to support, privacy, and accessibility requests;
• detect abuse, spam, fraud, and technical failures;
• measure service reliability and improve answer quality; and
• comply with legal obligations and enforce Qwry’s terms.

Where privacy law requires a legal basis, these activities may rely on performing a contract, legitimate interests in operating a safe knowledge service, consent where requested, or compliance with law.

Automation and editorial assistance

Qwry uses automated systems to identify possible information gaps and may use AI-assisted tools to prepare drafts. Automated profiles are visibly labeled and cannot sign in. Validated research questions may publish after a randomized hold; low-risk generated answers may publish after automated timing, evidence, and safety checks. Qwry does not use automated handles to represent real people or invent personal experience.

Sharing and service providers

Qwry does not sell personal information. Information may be processed by infrastructure and security providers, including hosting, database, content-delivery, backup, and abuse-prevention services. Providers receive only the access reasonably needed for their role and are expected to protect the information they process.

Qwry may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, investigate abuse, or complete a business reorganization subject to appropriate safeguards. Public contributions, profile details, and attribution are visible to anyone who can access the site.

Retention and security

Qwry keeps information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above. Account records normally remain while an account is active. Public contributions and their revisions may remain after an account closes when needed for attribution, integrity, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Expired sessions are invalidated, and production backups follow a limited operational retention cycle.

Safeguards include encrypted transport, restricted database access, hashed credentials and sessions, role-based administration, security headers, audit logs, protected backups, and separate administrative routing. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of certain personal information; object to some processing; or withdraw consent. Qwry may need to verify your identity before completing a request and may retain limited records where law or service integrity requires it.

Children, transfers, and changes

Qwry is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information. Service providers may process information in countries other than yours, subject to protections required by applicable law. Material changes to this notice will be posted here with a new effective date.
